​As with all dōTERRA essential oils caution should be taken while using them as they are made 100% pure and unadulterated (we only write about dōTERRA and can't vouch for other essential oils that may not be as pure).

​If you are using the oils topically always test a little bit on your skin first by performing a skin patch test to check for sensitivity. 

If it is a case that it may be a little bit strong for your skin you can always dilute the essential oil with a carrier oil, we would recommend fractionated coconut oil as one of the best carrier oils to use. As a rule of thumb a safe bet is to use a carrier oil from the beginning. 

There is a caution that should always be taken with citrus essential oils such as lemon oil, wild orange, lime, tangerine, grapefruit, red mandarin, Kumquat, Bergamot and certain oil blends such as Citrus Bliss, Air, Aromatouch, Cheer, Elevation, Forgive, InTune, Motivate, Onguard, Purify, Slim and Sassy, Sunny Citrus and Zendocrine etc.

These citrus oils and blends may cause Phototoxic or Photosensitive reactions and care should be taken if you are venturing out into the sun.

NB!!!! It is very important not to go out in the sun for at least 12 hours after applying a citrus oil or blended Photosensitive essential oil as the UV rays of the sun can cause damage to the skin cells ranging from a dark pigmented skin color to red or irritated skin. 

If you know you'll be exposed to the sun don't use these essential oils on your skin until the evening time and once again at least 12 hours before thinking of venturing out into the sunshine to guarantee there safe usage.

It's safe to take certain citrus oils internally and you should not be affected by this Photosensitive reaction​, it only counts for topical use of these oils.

​How I Personally Use Lemon Essential Oil

​I have to say I just love the smell of lemon!!!! It's so fresh and uplifting. It's no wonder why its zesty fragrance is used in so many home products today.

It is in everything from dish washing soap to laundry detergent, shower gel to bathroom and kitchen cleaners. It leaves behind a fresh odor that just smells clean and uplifts your mood.

I love to diffuse only 100% Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade (CPTG) lemon essential oil from dōTERRA of course! In my home to purify the air, create a positive mood and to get rid of any unwanted odors in the kitchen after cooking strong smelling foods.
